Description VLOC a Subsidiary of II-VI Incorporated, a world leader in the manufacturing of high power Solid State laser materials and optics located just north of Tampa, FL, is actively seeking an Laser Test Engineer.
Reporting to the Laser Test Manager, The Laser Test Engineer manages laser testing activities of both production and R&D optics, supervises Laser Test Technicians, is responsible for final product acceptance or rejection based on test results. Performs active laser testing and other opto-electric testing, optical testing where required. Collects and analyzes data, and supplies feedback on process and quality trends to other departments. Maintains and improves QA and Laser Lab equipment and facilities. Designs, creates, and operates laser test beds. Documents laser test setups including; operation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Assists Facility Safety Coordinator, supports CA, Crystal Growth, and R&D Departments. Assists in investigating production and quality problems and warranty returns, including documentation and follow-up.
Educational Requirements: B.S. in Physics or Optics or related field, or 5 years of continuous optical production or laboratory (University lab studies qualify, industrial preferred). Work experience in lasers, optical elements, or optical assembly and/or optical testing. Professional Certification and training a definite plus.
Special Abilities: The successful candidate will be observant, analytical, and detail-oriented, with the ability to set priorities and solve complex problems. They will possess excellent organizational skills, as well the ability to meet production goals, and work efficiently on several concurrent activities with minimal supervision. This position also involves a great deal of interaction with all other manufacturing and support departments and all levels of employees and management. A high degree of professionalism is expected when handling quality and technical issues internally. Excellent written and verbal skills are essential.
This position includes a combination of laboratory, office and production work. As this job includes extensive laser work, a high level of safety consciousness is required.
